ELISABETH SKOPP

Paulina Elisabeth Emma Skopp was probably the third of four children from the marriage of Julius and Paulina Skopp, a born Girod.[1] Her father Julius worked as a master cooper in Steinort. Julius had inherited his trade as the eldest son from Paulina’s grandfather Ludwig Skopp.[2] In the family tradition, he produced barrels and other wooden vessels. It is unusual that the children’s grave of Elizabeth, who died very young, was decorated with a metal cross. Due to the many infant deaths, not every family could afford this. The business of the coopers workshop must have gone quite well. Next to little Elisabeth lies her uncle Louis Skopp, her father’s younger brother, who died at the age of 26.
